a chick

Post by millipede » Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:24 am

Well, technically speaking this may not be my own pet. We're watching a bunch of birds for a friend. We're hatching some eggs from his birds and ours. Right now we have 9 chicks in the brooder and lots more eggs in the incubator to hatch on other days.
This is just one of the chicks. Most of them are fairly light like this but there is a darker one in there I'll have to get a good picture of.

this will have to do for now though. :D

our first two hatches were pretty poor. The first one was on time, so I didn't think anything was wrong... but, the temperature was just a tiny bit high... Then, the second hatch, most were early and some had issues, like unabsorbed yolk sacs.
We got the temperature right now and the current hatch seems to be better so far.

I sold 6 chicks Saturday, have 5 in one brooder, 4 in another with more coming out today. We'll probably be hatching every week or two for the next few months... as long as everyone keeps laying like they have.
