What is it? The flower almost looks like that of a Christmas Cactus.

Nice to see you here Bummer...
That flower is a type of thistle... I believe it is Bull Thistle. It's considered a weed and can grow to 6 feet high. The leaves have little thorns or spines on them. I think they are pretty and the animals LOVE them, so I leave them out there when I see them. I might have some pictures somewhere of some butterflies on them. When they go to seed the birds will feed from them as well... thistle seed.

It's pretty (I don't mind one thistle :) ) but those things hurt like crazy if you get jabbed! I remember rolling under a fence once a long time ago and rolling on top of a dried up bull thistle - YOW!!
