A few new things

Post by millipede »

Still working... have lots I want to do but, I'm REALLY slow as I try to do things carefully and am horrible with the decision making process.

For now, attachments are allowed... meaning, you can add pictures using the attachment feature. Size is limited and this will work for now as long as we don't have a TON(thousands and thousands) of pictures being uploaded too quickly. Hopefully if things get busy enough that it's a problem, I'll be able to increase my hosting plan if it's necessary. We'll see.

With the attachments turned on there's also a new lightbox feature so the pictures will be thumbnails that can be clicked and viewed with the lightbox feature. I have one picture added of fireworks that you can click on to see what I mean... in the photography section.
@Nicki now you can upload pictures right here to our servers. If the size limit is not acceptable, if you want to post something BIGGER(I'm currently limiting it to no bigger than 900x900 pixels and, I think 200kb) you can always use another host for now and still post pictures.
I considered using an extension but weighing the options, this is what I chose for now.
Oh, if you're reading this Nicki, let me know if tagging you the way I did sent you a notification. I think it's supposed to. That's another extension I added in the last week or so... start typing the @ symbol and someone's name and it should give options to select from, tagging that person. :)

Also, we have a twitter page... mostly so I could set up the twitter login for this forum. I have it connected to our FB page so I can post on the FB page and have it pop up on twitter.

And if you're still reading this nicki, I have a question for you. Partly because of the twitter page, and thinking of "following" other pages... and partly just for resources to have... Know of any sources/websites that focus on nature that are also what you might call Christian friendly? As in, not pushing worldly views and things like evolution down your throat. Recently the Audubon society published a story that apparently had swears in it and they did this(not their writings, someone else's I believe) to hopefully draw in the younger generation by being more edgy or something.
I understand them wanting to do that but now I don't feel like I can let my kids go browsing their website anytime they want to. :(
So I'm out trying to find such resources that I might personally trust more... for myself, my family, and for this website as well. :)

Lots going on in my head... yet I still feel like I'm not getting anything accomplished. Still trying to convince my wife she needs to find a way to contribute here. I think she could bring something I can't... not sure what that is but, more people posting more of a variety of things will appeal to a larger crowd I think.
Nobody is taking advantage of the social login/signup feature so far. Hopefully one of these days someone will browse on in, see how easy it can be to jump right in, and do just that.
Lots of rambling... back to TRYING to be productive...

I'm excited about the photo attachment feature! Will try it out as soon as I can!

@millipede yes I did get a notification that you tagged me!

I'm sorry, I don't really know of any websites that are nature related and Christian friendly - this is usually the only nature forum/website I go to :(

or I could view your profile in the admin section and see your email address and, then I'd know. :)

I tried asking a few people on facebook about the whole nature thing... Part of that was for my own resources and for my kids but also, hoping to put the twitter page out there more, I was hoping to follow a few good sites.

Lots more work to do on a variety of things... hoping that through this and the new youtube channel... some day... some day maybe I'll be able to pick up a few bucks and start being able to pay for the site better. ha. Some day. Too many some days.
For now, I'll keep working and see what happens.
Thanks for being here.
