I normally like to look at a whole book, or at least a bunch of verses as you can read so much into what is going on... But today, I'm going to share just one verse.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Want to be free from sin? God has given us authority over it. He has given us the power to overcome it.
We're always going to be sinners. We're always going to mess up and do things wrong here and there. But many people have some serious struggles in their lives. Some people struggle with lying, some with hatred and anger, some with bitterness, jealousy... the list goes on and on. For many people, their sin is chronic, meaning it is habitual... basically, something they can't seem to escape.
Many people try every day to quit smoking or go on a diet. It takes a LOT of discipline to accomplish those things.
If we're honest with ourselves, we all have struggles. Areas of our lives we'd like to see changed. Change is good. But, it's so hard isn't it.
God wants you to know that you can do anything He wants you to do, through Him.
Want to be free from Sin? Where do you start? READ God's word. Study it... meditate on it day and night...
One verse talks about Jesus fighting off the temptation from the Devil... a FACE TO FACE encounter with the Devil... I don't think temptation gets any greater. And how did Jesus handle this? With Scripture.
Another verse mentions the armour of God... It says the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
God's word is a sword. It is powerful.
okay... we all know this right? But, how often are we carrying that sword with us?
In some religions they have scripture all around them. They post in on their doors, they wear it around their necks... Many of us have a Bible, and for far too many of us, that bible sits on a shelf until we carry it to Church on Sunday.
Open up your bible daily... read God's word... study it... and hide it in your heart so that you may not sin against God.
No other book has such power. God's word was written for you. Use it.
Deal God, I just thank you for revealing so much of yourself unto us through your word. I pray that we will hold tight to this word and that it will give us the strength we need to overcome temptation. And thank you Lord for giving us that authority.
A new subject or passage each week for all to discuss.
