my yard

Postby millipede » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:35 pm

well, my yard isn't quite as landscaped as I'd like... LOTS to do, but I get some things done.
What I wanted to mention today was a little flower bed right in front of one of my poultry pens. It's just a few feet wide... I set it up last year. Landscaping bricks and soil... The only thing I really grew in it last year were passion flowers. Those were pretty, and so easy to grow as they're wild here.
But this year, I have a few more things in there. I have some hyacinth and tulips, and mulch. It's amazing how much better things look with mulch.
I also have two climbing roses right up against the side of the pen. I can't wait to see them climbing up the side.
I have pictures of the flowers that are blooming but I don't have them on the computer just yet. I can't wait until the roses grown and bloom so I can get pictures of those too.

SOunds really pretty. Can't wait to see the pics! Too bad the roses aren't blooming yet...I've never grown them before; do they bloom in the summer?

I'm no rose expert... but, different ones bloom at different times I believe. They should bloom sometime this summer. I just hope they will. Being brand new, they're cut WAY back to almost nothing. There's all sorts of new growth on them, but I wont find out for a while how fast they'll actually grow.
I'll TRY to get a picture or two on here later.

Okay, I got some pictures...
Here's the flower bed(you can see tulips, hyacinth, and the two small rose bushes in the back. Oh, if you can see the chain link, that's one of my pens.):

Thanks... but I don't know about having a green thumb. All I did was plant them really.
That flower bed is full of nice potting soil... and, I have it next to the pen for more than one reason. Of course, it makes things look nice... but also, I can dump dirty water from the birds there. That sort of helps them get watered and fertilized at the same time without me having to really think about it.
I've heard roses need a lot of water, which is why I decided to try some there.
So far, things are looking pretty good.
