I'm getting old
I finally gave in and went to get an eye exam yesterday. The doctor said he couldn't believe I haven't been in there sooner... that's how bad my eyes are. I have astigmatism in each eye. They're both pretty bad and they're both quite different. So each eye sees differently...
anyway, I left wearing a pair of contacts. They were quite uncomfortable. I have to try them out for a week though to see if I can get used to them. If not then we can try another brand to see if they fit better or anything.
I'm also getting glasses. Talk about a LOT of money. I thought the frames were expensive enough, until they started talking to me about the price of lenses. Sigh... I hate spending that much money. It's nice to see though.

Anyway... that's where I was for a few hours yesterday... I don't like getting old. I feel old, and now if I wear the glasses I'll look older too.
If the contacts work out, I'll probably wear those when I'm out most of the time and just wear the glasses around the house or something. The frames I got have the sunglasses that stick right on with magnets... so I could always just wear those and look like I'm wearing sunglasses.

You've never had an eye exam before?? I got glasses when I was in 4th grade and wore them up till I was 18 years old, then I got contacts. It took me a while to get used to them, but now I absolutely LOVE them!! I didn't get the disposable kind, so I had the same pair of contacts for 3 years...then 2 weeks ago I got a nick in one of them...so I had to wear my glasses again for a week until I got new contacts :x .
My mom is near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other so she has trouble seeing with or without glasses LOL.

I had an eye exam once in middle school. I had fallen out of a tree... onto a rock wall. Landed on my head
For a while afterwards my peripheral vision was bad. I couldn't see anything left or right while looking straight ahead, except for blurry light.
Went to the doctor, had a concussion... they had me look at a chart... then said to get an eye exam.
So, on another day I got an eye exam... a real one, they dilated my eyes and everything. Then they said I had perfect vision. Since then I never bothered, and my eyes didn't really bother me for a long time. Over the past few years I BARELY noticed certain things. Like tail lights at night getting blurry. But nothing that really bothered me. But during the last 6 months or so it's become more obvious that I needed glasses. I was depressed... and put it off.
I wore the contacts for a while today. The doctor said I should wear them 4 hours today, and longer tomorrow.
I could barely take wearing them half the time today. I don't think they fit right, even though the doctor said they looked good.
While most things are clear with them on, certain parts of my vision are bothering me when I'm wearing them... enough to REALLY bother me... so that by the time I take them out I rub my eyes like crazy and then just wish I could go to bed.

I'm very self conscious and I've hated the thought of wearing glasses. Tristan didn't help saying I looked like a geek already :x
But, if the doctor can't help me find something more comfortable, I may just stick with glasses. I got some frames that have sunglasses that stick on with magnets. they don't look TOO bad.

sigh... I don't want to grow up.

Oh, I didn't really say too much about my eye problems did I?
I have an astigmatism in each eye. What's that? Basically the round part of the the eye that you use to see, isn't round. So, things don't look quite like they should. The doctor was saying with most people it's straight across on both eyes. For me, one eye is pretty much straight across while the other is almost up and down.
For me to look at things I can't always tell what's wrong. Things just aren't perfectly clear, though I can't always tell that. It's more obvious when I'm trying to look at finer details, like words
Anyway
I had noticed a long time ago, when I look at the light on our smoke detector at night there's a glow around it. If I close one eye the glow goes left to right. If I close the other eye the glow is more up and down.
I was looking at some BIG letters on a book the other day, one eye at a time. While looking at the letter O it was like ghosted, like I could see two but one was lighter than the other. Again, they'd go different ways depending on which eye I used. If I moved my head away from and towards the book, the O's I saw got further and closer together. If I looked at it right it gave the appearance of that second O coming off the book. It was kind of neat in a way.
Anyway, even though it's faint, it's like each eye sees double. So in a way, I guess I see quadruple since each eye is so different. No wonder things were blurry eh?

Anyway, I went back and they gave me a different brand of contact because the other ones bothered me so much. These new ones felt better yesterday, but they drove me nuts today. I don't know, if they keep driving me nuts I may end up in glasses all the time.
We'll see how things go I guess.

I hope you adjust to the contacts soon! I know how irritating they are to begin with, but believe me - they're so much better than glasses! Well in my opinion anyway LOL

I got my glasses today. After getting home and trying to feed the animals with them, I quickly put the contacts in and didn't mind them as much.
These glasses are wacky. I think I'll have to take them back and get them fixed or something. They told me I needed to just get used to them but things are way off. Things on the right look smaller and yet closer than on the left. Hard to explain but really annoying.

Well... I've actually been trying to get used to the glasses... They're still crazy, I REALLY think I need to get him to change the prescription... but those sill contacts just irritate my eyes like crazy.
The last set I tested, some of the blurriness was gone... That part was actually better, but then there were other aspects that were worse.
I find myself wearing the glasses almost all day... but, They're still off... Even right now, looking at my computer desk... it looks like things should be rolling off.... It's just crazy.
Friday I go back for yet another set of contacts to try... and I'm going to make sure we get the prescription right this time... somehow...
