Beautiful... I LOVE flowering trees... and maples... and grape hyacinths... what kind of apple tree is that? I've been wanting to find one that's semi-native or something... something I wouldn't have to actually care for. Something that would just grow and produce fruit.
Sorry I haven't replied to this topic...I forgot about it Anyway, the apple tree is a granny smith...that's all I know about it LOL. We don't do anything to it, but the apples never are good; we really need to fertilize it or something.
mmm granny smiths are pretty good. I watched them on ask this old house once show a guy what he had to do with an apple tree. You are supposed to fertilize it I'm sure, but they also suggested pruning it every year. You're supposed to prune any branches that are touching each other for starters. I couldn't really give any advice on it though. They also suggested putting mulch down. They said however far the branches spread, that's about how far the roots likely go and that's how far out you should mulch.
I wish I had lots of fruit trees... but I want native plants that don't require so much care.
I took some more pictures yesterday, but it was pretty cloudy and dreary so they didn't turn out as nice as I would have liked. This is a Yoshino Cherry tree, probably my favorite type of tree...I think they're so beautiful!
That is pretty... Some of the trees I just planted are going to be beautiful... but, they're young and have a lot of years before they're nice and big like that. I can't wait. One of the trees I bought, and planted already... isn't what it said it was. It's a crabapple, I think... the picture on the tag shows white flowers... the tree is covered with the start of a bunch of deep pink flowers. I'm guessing it's still a crabapple, just not the one that I thought I was getting. We'll see... it will be pretty anyway...
