More on Time
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face therof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received intstruction.
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
I'm sure you can see the connection between these verses and time, without me saying anything.
Most of the verses in the bible that talk about slothfulness, they mention things like business and money. I'd like to use these verses to talk about a few different things.
Business is of course a good example. If you sit around and wait for work to come, or money to come, you'll be sitting there for a long time and will very likely wind up poor.
This website believe it or not is another example. If I set this thing up and then just sat back, folded my hands, and took a nap you'd be hearing crickets in here all the time. There'd be no growth, no good growth anyway. You may indeed see weeds here. I know of another forum where the administrator abandoned it completely and now there is absolutely nothing but spam there and LOTS of it. If that man were to put some work into that, it would begin to grow and flourish once again.
There are lots of ways you can consider these ideas of slothfulness. God has given each of us gifts to use. Are we using them? We can't be slothful and lazy with those.
How about people? lost souls? Are we putting off witnessing?
There are many things that God wants us to do, and many things that we might even desire. Well, what are you waiting for? We have no time to spare.
I've met so many people that wish they could do something, wish they could learn something, or that they had before. And many people that say "some day". Well, what are you waiting for? To those that wish they had, you still can. To those that wish for "some day", why not today? No one knows what tomorrow holds. Today is all you have, all you can be certain of.
If you have something you want to learn, study, do, get out there and do it. Don't waste any time. Do you have friends or family, or know of someone that doesn't have Christ in their lives? Are you waiting for the perfect moment to reach out to them, to share with them the love God has to offer? This is something that you cannot wait on. For time is slipping away.
Dear Lord I just thank you for the time you have given us and for the time that You took to save us. I pray that we might be better stewards of the time you have given unto us. Let us not be slothful in our ways, in any ways. I pray that you would help us to make the most of every moment.
A new subject or passage each week for all to discuss.
