Re: interesting, wild plants

Millipede, you can eat just about any thistle leaf. There are 200 diff't kinds of thistles and I mostly put them in my Vita-Mix and add to smoothies/juice. Even now in Nov, my garden gets some sort of thistle, which I allow to grow in the fall and ! One that looks like heart-shapped clover, which I ...

Re: interesting, wild plants

HUH? IDK what Michael Jackson has to do with this, LOL, but one thing, it brought me back to this forum, to which I haven't been in a few yrs. How the heck are you Millipede? Kelljonma, you still around? Still have chickens? Back on topic, I've learned a lot more (but still lots to learn!) about wil...

Re: interesting, wild plants

Thanks Keljonma! that is so interesting...My 6 y.o. daughter did an experiment! When I was trimming up our Christmas tree, I let her smell the needles and she loved the smell, so cut up a bunch and put them in water to make "perfume." they're still sitting there...LOL, but I'm afraid to us...

Re: interesting, wild plants/white pine?

I have a book on wild edible plants that I got in 1982...LOL, but it wasn't until this yr that I pulled it out and dusted it off, when I took a couple classes on wild edible plants......Simply amazing. And I just got a handcrank manual stainless steel (wheatgrass) juicer from fernsnutrition.com that...

Re: Homestyle V8 juice

I just kind of throw mine together, so the recipe is never exact. I believe we all need to add WAY more greens to our diet, so I really pile in the greens, so my V9 goes something like this: 7 tomatoes handful of parsley 2 celery stalks 1/3 red pepper 1 apple 1 carrot 3 large kale leaves, collards, ...

Re: Homestyle V8 juice

Wow, I just reinvented the wheel....LOL....I call mine V9 because it does V-8 one better by being raw! But I like the fact that yours can be canned and so convenient - just whip out a jar. Anyway, a former employee of mine was a truck driver before he worked for me. He would often deliver to some V8...

Making Butter and Buttermilk

SilkieCharm ---Sorry, I got you mixed up with another "Silkie - Something" who keeps goats so I don't know whether you do or not. But to make your own REAL buttermilk, you must first make butter, which is actually quite easy. You must have whole cream. If you have goat milk, then as you kn...

Good Oils: Coconut Oil, High Oleic Safflower Oil

Just wanted to turn you folks on to some good oils to cook with: You can use coconut oil in recipes that call for butter - it acts like butter or lard...good for pie crusts, cookies, etc....I have an awesome recipe for chocolate frosting I'll share later that uses it....Although you may find the occ...

Green Smoothies

I think everyone should be doing green smoothies! Mix a small amount of fruit with as many leafy greens as you can. A little bit of water. It helps if you have a powerful blender, like a Vita-Mix. I believe everyone should try to have at least one-a-day. It's an easy quick way to get your greens. Na...

Grawnola

What with the discovery of acrylamides - cancer-causing substances in dry-cooked grains etc, many are now turning from traditional granola to Grawnola: Here's a recipe: (I like to add truly raw cashews. You can get them at rawguru.com) Ingredients 3 to 4 cups Raw buckwheat groats. Soak and sprout th...
